Jesus invites you to follow Him.
An invitation before an achievement
You do not need to understand everything before beginning. The first disciples did not receive a complete map. They met Jesus, heard His invitation, and took a first step.
Read the invitation
Open a Bible and read Mark 1:14–20 slowly. Jesus announces the good news of God's kingdom. Then He calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John while they are working. Notice what He says and how they respond.
Bring your questions to the passage. You can begin before you have every answer.
Grace comes first
Jesus calls ordinary people to come near, trust Him, and learn a new way of life. His message calls for repentance and faith. Repentance means turning from self-rule toward God; it is more than feeling ashamed. Faith does not mean pretending to have no questions. It means placing growing trust in Jesus.
The fishermen had not completed religious training or proved themselves impressive. Jesus took the initiative. Following Him would reshape their lives, but their journey began with His invitation. You are learning to follow, not performing spiritual perfection.
Look closely at Mark's account
- What message does Jesus announce?
- What responses does He call for?
- What does He promise to form His followers to become?
Answer honestly
- What draws you toward Jesus right now?
- What makes following Him feel difficult or uncertain?
- What is one area where you want to learn His way?
Keep your answer private if you wish. This page does not collect your reflection. You may write in a journal or simply sit with the questions.
Bring your whole life
Jesus, I hear Your invitation to follow. I bring You my hope, hesitation, questions, and unfinished life. Help me turn toward You, trust Your good news, and take the next faithful step. Amen.
You can use these words or pray in your own.
Take one ordinary step
Before one ordinary activity today, pause and say, “Jesus, teach me to follow You here.” Then choose one action consistent with His love and truth.
If following Jesus became the center of my life, what might begin to change?
If you have a trusted Christian in your life, consider asking what following Jesus has meant in their ordinary days.
